Hues is the second half of "Pictures and Hues", composed at his apartment in New York City (1974) before first time coming in 1975.
In 1982, Manfred Niehaus, West German radio director offered Hammond a job as soloist to perform for MUSIC AUS USA and asked him to submit some compositions to be performed by the Studio-Ensemble des Robert chumann Institutes in Dusseldorf, Germany; to be conducted by Wolfgang Trommer at Tonehalle Dsseldorf, Germany for WDR(West German Radio, May 6, 1983. Other works performed this day were of composers Joan Tower, Susanne Krebs, IIhan Mimaroglu and Charles Ives..
